It generally causes painful inflammation of the joints and tissues. Rectum: The last part of the digestive tract. Symptoms in women include pain or burning when urinating, yellow or green vaginal discharge that can be bloody, bleeding between periods, and pain during sex. Gonococcal arthritis is a rare complication of the sexually transmitted infection (STI) gonorrhea. Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID): An infection of the upper female genital tract. Obstetrician–Gynecologist (Ob-Gyn): A doctor with special training and education in women’s health. Neurological: Related to the nervous system. Meningitis: Inflammation of the covering of the brain or spinal cord. If left untreated, HIV can cause acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV): A virus that attacks certain cells of the body’s immune system. Gonorrhea: A sexually transmitted infection that can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease, infertility, and arthritis. Secondary syphilis rashes can appear as the chancre sore is healing or several weeks after the chancre sore has healed. Genitals: The sexual or reproductive organs. Symptoms include fever, chills, skin sores, and pain in the wrists, fingers, knees, or toes.
